How far does your donation go?
The per capita income in Tanzania according to the US Department of State is $442 per year. Fees for a year at a private primary or secondary school, including tuition and full board, can range from $500-$1500 (Universities and special colleges usually cost even more). If a student has a family, they must sacrifice a lot to give their children a good education. If a student has no parents, the chances of receiving a decent education are very small.
With economic challenges in every country in the world, it is still worth considering the comparisons. Did you know that if you earn USD 20,000 per year, you are in the top 11.6% richest people in the world! (Try this site for your wealth position in the world: www.globalrichlist.com).
Up to this point, the GLK Student Fund has been able to channel 99% of all donations directly to student scholarships. Good management, favorable exchange rates, and excellent work by the Trustees have resulted in funds being stretched as far as possible and being used wisely in accordance with the Mission Statement.
Consider giving a donation – or even a sponsorship – in the name of someone(s) you want to honor or to be remembered. We will send a lovely card recognizing your gift given in their honor. Please note the information on your donation, or contact Gayle at glkstudentfund(at)gmail(dot)com.
